Creating business template in photoshop – FREE PSD

Today I’m going to walk You through the process of creating business template in Photoshop. Template is based on 960 grid. Hope You’ll learn something new or maybe use the template in Your projects.

What will be needed in this tutorial?

Step 1. Using 960 grid system

If You haven’t already 960grid action in Your photoshop, then it’s time to put it there. Just download whole package from the author site and import action file in photoshop. If You don’t know how to do this just take a look at couple previous tutorials. Of course You don’t have to use it, but it can be helpfull, but still, it isn’t necessarily.

Step 2. Action file

After importing action file choose 12 column grid and press play. New file should pop up with vertical grids. Now go to image -> canvas size and change the height for about 1500px.

Step 3. Adding guides

Add some horizontal guides at 120, 150, 200, 550, 880 and 1270px. We will use them later.

Step 4. Header

Create new layer with rectangle from the top to the 120px.

photo 2

Choose colors: for foreground #cacaca and for background #878787. Pick gradient tool and choose radial gradient.

photo 3

Draw a gradient from top to bottom. Start above the template.

photo 4

Now You should have nice bg for header.

photo 5

Step 5. Logo

Add chart icon for the logo and some text. Used fonts are Impact and Myriad Pro, colors #efefef and #d5d5d5.

photo 6

Step 6. Search/socials box

On the right side draw a rectangle with rectangle tool. Set gradient in blending options

photo 7

Now copy the layer, delete all effects and fill in with black color. Move this layer under the layer of our first rectangle. Now use Your warp tool (edit->transform->warp) to create a nice shadow shape.

photo 8

Add some blur to the shadow and change opacity to 50%

photo 9

Step 7. Adding social icons

Add some social icons. Color for “Follow Us” is #666666.

photo 10

Step 8. Shadow

Get rounded rectangle tool with radius for about 3 or 4px and draw a shape for search field. Add some drop shadow and inner shadow in blending options

photo 11

Now draw a square for search icon with the same tool and also set a gradient overlay

photo 12

Now take custom shape tool and choose search shape. Draw it on the search button. Now transform it a little bit (edit->free transform) and cut some of it.

photo 13

Step 9. Navigation

Get rectangle tool and set the color for #cacbcb. Draw a rectangle between grid lines on 150px and 200px. Add some text for naviagtion. Font I used is Myriad Pro and the color is #535353.

photo 14

Step 10. Slider background

Now make another layer with rectangle which contains slider section between 200px and 550px lines. Set the colors as below and drag it from the left to the right side.

photo 15
photo 16

Step 11. Navigation shadow

Now take rounded rectangle tool, set color to black and draw a shape similar to this in the picture

photo 17

Now move it under our navigation. Add some blur and change opacity to 40%

photo 18

Now You have nice shadow effect under Your navigation.

Step 12. slider arrows

Get rounded rectangle tool and draw a perfect circle (hold shift when You drawing). Set the color to #f0f0f0. Now get the arrow shape from custom shape tool and draw small arrow in the center of the circle. Set the color to #c3c3c3.

photo 19

Now just move it in the right place. To do the second arrow simply copy both layers and go to edit->tranform->flip horizontal and place it on the other side.

photo 20

Step 13. Slider content

Add another chart icon and some text on the right side. For h1 I used Myriad Pro 30px #333333 and for text Arial 12px #666666.

photo 21

Step 14. Read more button

Next step will be adding read more button in slider section. Get rounded rectangle tool with 4px radius and draw a rectangle. Go to blending options

photo 22

Now You should have something similar

photo 23

Now take colors from gradiens and draw two vertical lines with 1px of width. Fill each with other color

photo 24

From custom shape tool take arrow shape and draw it on the right of the button. Color is white.

photo 25

Now add some text. Color that I used is #f4f4f4, font is Myriad Pro 14px.

photo 26

Now out header and slider sections are ready

photo 27

Step 15. Content background

Get rectangle tool and draw a shape from horizontal grid on 550px. The height of the grid is based how much gradient do You want. But I suggest the height of about 630-680px.

photo 28

Go to blending options and set the gradient

photo 29

Step 16. Adding separator

Make two horizontal lines with 1px of height. One with color of #FFFFFF and second #c0c0c0. Put the white line under gray. Put this two lines between content and slider sections.

photo 30

Step 17. Adding shadow

Copy the shadow layer from navigation and place it under the separator. Cut off the unnecessary part of the shadow.

photo 31

Step 18. Filling with a contentv
Add chart icon, h1 and some randowm text to the section

photo 32

Step 19. Adding another separator

Copy the separator from step 16 and place it under the content section.

photo 33

Step 20. Boxes section

Add some headers and randowm text in 3 boxes under the content section. One box should have 4 grid kolumns.

photo 34

Step 21. Adding shadow to the headers

You can add shadow under the headers. You can copy shadow from content area and with edit -> free transform adjust it to the headers.

photo 35

Step 22. Adding icons for background

Under the text in boxes You can add some chart icons. After this set the opacity for 15px and place the chart layers under the layers of the text. Also You can go to image->adjustments->hue/saturation, check colorize, and set hue for 200 and saturation for 50. Now the icons should change color to blue. Of course to do this You have to select Your chart icon layer.

photo 36

Step 23. Add separator one more time

Copy one more time separator from content and place it under the boxes section.

photo 37

Step 24. Footer background

With rectangle tool draw a shape from horizontal grid line on 1250px to the end and go to blending options

photo 38
photo 39

Step 25. Footer sections

I make 3 sections in the footer, similar to the boxes section. In the first add the icon with the same hue/saturation setting as the icons in the boxes. Then add some random text around the icon.

photo 40

Step 26. Footer links

Now add some list items in the second section in the footer. You can find a check sign in custom shape tool. Just add some shapes on the left and text on the right

photo 41

Step 27. Copyrights

To finalize the whole template add some copyright on the right

photo 42

Finished!

Great! Now we have out template finished.

In the next designing tutorial I try to show You how I use the adjustments panel in photoshop and how easy it is to do the template with multiple colors.
